Lord Mayor backs tourism and business – calls for Ekka public holiday date change

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is formally calling on the State Government to change the Ekka public holiday from mid-week to create a long weekend in August to support struggling tourism operators and businesses.

“Tourism right across Australia is suffering right now and it’s especially dire in Queensland as the State Government keeps interstate borders closed with no set date for reopening,” Cr Schrinner said.

“Creating a long weekend in August will give South East Queensland residents the opportunity to have a mini-holiday in their own state, eat out at local cafes and restaurants, book accommodation and tourism experiences.
