Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is calling for nominations for the 2020 Lord Mayor’s Australia Day Awards which close on Monday, November 11.
Cr Schrinner said the awards are designed to celebrate the achievements of Brisbane residents whose efforts had significantly improved the lives of individuals and communities.
“We have so many inspirational residents in the community, it’s your turn to put them forward and make sure they are recognised for their contribution to making Brisbane better,” he said.
“Our local communities are filled with people who generously give their time and energy to help those who are vulnerable or in need.
“Brisbane would not be the diverse, friendly and strong community it is without these individuals.
“Whether it’s improving our natural environment, helping the less fortunate, working with children, the elderly or people with disabilities, these residents are making Brisbane an even better place to live.”
Cr Schrinner said the past year’s winners included Citizens of the Year Umesh and Usha Chandra for their enormous contribution to the community of Brisbane, Young Citizen of the Year designer Connor O’Grady and tireless St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital volunteer Robyn Everest, who was the 2019 Senior Citizen of the Year.
“Each and every one of these recipients has displayed a great act of selflessness and generosity so make sure you get in this year and nominate,” he said.
“If you know someone who should be honoured in the 2020 Lord Mayor’s Australia Day Awards, please submit a nomination on Council’s website, before close of business Monday November 11, 2019.”
The Lord Mayor’s Australia Day Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, 23 January.
