Brisbane City Council is making it easier for residents to access parking permits with the introduction of a new digital system, providing on-the-spot permit approvals.
Infrastructure Chairman Cr Amanda Cooper said that from this week, the system would be progressively rolled-out, starting with nine parking permit areas across the city.
“Brisbane’s parking permits provide residents with unrestricted parking in the 21 dedicated areas of the city with controlled parking, around the inner-city, sporting stadiums and major event venues,” Cr Cooper said.
“These areas are subject to controlled parking, due to the high volume of vehicles that would otherwise seek to park in an area for entertainment or work.”
Cr Cooper said the new digital system would enhance the permit application and renewal process, offering smoother and faster service for residents.
“Residents in the permit areas of Windsor, Wilston, Buranda, Highgate Hill, Holland Park West, Red Hill, Robertson/Macgregor, Sunnybank and West End are the first to benefit, with the launch of the system this week,” she said.
“All remaining areas will be implemented progressively until mid-2019, by which time the approximately 40,000 parking permits will be digitally in place.
“From this week, new permit requests will also be able to be requested on the new digital portal, which is accessible via Council’s website.
“A range of new permits will also be offered once the system is fully implemented, including carers, health and community, vessel occupier, fleet and car-share permits, as well as two categories of short-term permits to make it easier for tradies to carry out home repairs and renovations.”
Cr Cooper said permits would no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle dashboard, following the roll-out of the new system.
“While Council’s systems will no longer require permits to be displayed, residents who still prefer a visitor paper permit on their vehicle will be able to request one,” she said.
“For those residents who feel more comfortable applying for their permits over the phone or with hard-copy forms, these options will also remain available.”
