With Christmas just around the corner, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has unveiled a suite of free and affordable holiday activities, including a new Mt Coot-tha shuttle bus.

Cr Schrinner said the new shuttle service would make it easier for residents to travel around key destinations on Mt Coot-tha, including the Mt Coot-tha Lookout, J.C. Slaughter Falls Picnic Area, Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, Brisbane Botanic Gardens and the Visitor Information Centre.

“We are committed to creating even more for residents to see and do across Brisbane, especially throughout the school holiday season,” he said.

“More than 1.2 million people visited Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens in the past financial year, and we are expecting to see even more people, as the school holidays start and the shuttle begins on Friday 6 December.

Cr Schrinner said Council’s school holiday program offered more than 750 free and affordable events across Brisbane that would be guaranteed to keep children entertained throughout the school break.

“With Christmas weeks away, Council’s 33 libraries are hosting a range of events and workshops, including author talks, card and wreath making workshops, and children’s play groups,” he said.

“Council pools continue to be incredibly popular, with more than 3.2 million visitors in the past financial year, and 16 of our 22 pools have aqua parks and water play areas which are guaranteed to keep the kids entertained.”

Council’s Active and Healthy program has activities for kids of all ages and interests, including kayaking tours, skateboarding, fishing, kitesurfing and BMX workshops.

Christmas events in the CBD, South Bank and Roma Street Parklands will offer entertainment the whole family can enjoy, with firework displays, Christmas carols and children can meet Santa at South Bank from December 20 to 23.

Cr Schrinner encouraged residents to visit Council’s website to find out about all the incredible activities available over the festive season.

“Council’s continual delivery of balanced budgets means we can give back to the community and introduce exciting initiatives, events and activities, from the new Mt Coot-tha shuttle bus to our pool and library upgrades.

“Team Schrinner is committed to making the Brisbane of tomorrow even better than the Brisbane of today.”
