Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is spearheading the delivery of a $500 million to Building Better Roads for Brisbane Fund to keep the suburbs moving.

Cr Schrinner said Brisbane City Council and the Morrison Government have pinpointed 11 critical infrastructure projects that would help reshape Brisbane by upgrading some of Brisbane’s most notorious suburban traffic hotspots.

“By working closely with the LNP Federal Government we have not only identified these traffic bottlenecks, but together we’re rolling out targeted plans to fix them so residents can get home sooner and safer,” he said.

“This joint $500 million commitment will mean these 11 congestion-busting projects can get underway over the next three years.

“Brisbane is a great place to live, work and relax, and I want to get residents out of traffic and able to spend more time doing what they love.

“I have a clear vision for the future of our city and we are committed to managing growth, building better transport networks while protecting our fantastic quality of life.

“The LNP is committed to delivering projects that will slash travel times, help save lives and support economic benefits and more jobs.”

Federal Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge said kicking off construction on these critical suburban projects was one of his top priorities for Brisbane.

“These projects will bust congestion, they will deliver life-saving safety road improvements and they will bolster freight connections that underpin the state and national economies,” Mr Tudge said.

“The Morrison Government promised we will get the people of Brisbane home sooner and safer, and we will deliver.”

Cr Schrinner said the Building Better Roads for Brisbane Fund proves great outcomes can be achieved when different levels of government worked collaboratively together for the greater good of residents.

“Open level crossings are a State Government responsibility, but Brisbane City Council and the Federal Government have put money on the table for several of these upgrades, including the open level crossings at Lindum, Coopers Plains and Beams Road, Carseldine,” he said.

“I hope the Palaszczuk State Labor Government realises that the removal of these crossings is key to get Brisbane moving and prioritises the planning, funding and delivery of these much needed projects.”
