More than a quarter of a million dollars is up for grabs for local business to deliver events, festivals and markets, with the launch of the Lord Mayor’s Precinct Promotion Fund today.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said applications were now open for local business groups to apply for a cash-boost of up to $10,000 each to deliver events across the suburbs.

“This is the latest initiative to be supported by Council’s economic Recovery Plan, which has already provided more than 14,700 businesses and organisations with $18.5 million relief from fees, rents and charges,” Cr Schrinner said.

“Throughout the COVID pandemic some businesses in our suburban shopping precincts really struggled, and this funding will drive events and foot traffic to the areas, in turn providing support for the local businesses.

“Residents can expect to see a whole range of events that will make our suburban streets across all parts of Brisbane a must-attend destination, with things like food markets, live music and pop up stores for everyone to enjoy.

“As we rebuild from the pandemic it is so important that we continue to support local businesses and do everything we can to ease the financial burden, support local jobs and invest in our city’s future.

“This latest fund will not only benefit the businesses, but the delivery of events, festivals, markets and campaigns will create more to see and do for residents.”

Applicants for the Lord Mayor’s Precinct Promotion Fund are now open and close on 10 May 2021. For more information visit brisbane.qld.gov.au or call Council on 3403 8888.
